Ethical trade Norway is a member based organization and resource center for sustainable trade. Our aim is to promote responsible business conduct in supply chains so that trade helps to secure human rights, workers rights, society and environment.
We offer our members individual guidance, capacity building through different courses and workshops, and access to resources and tools for sustainability work.
We reach 170 members, 100.000 suppliers and 4 million workers through our work.
Our member advisors have expertise on supply chain monitoring. We assist members from business and public sector with getting an overview, prevent and limit any negative consequences purchasing practices and production might have, through due diligence – an international recognized method that reveals what effect the enterprise have on people, society and environment.
The membership gives access to the largest network of enterprises in the Nordic countries who work commited and systematic to secure sustainable supply chains. Our members include some of Norways largest companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), public enterprises and organizations.
Cooperation, both at a national and international level, is the key to gain improvements. Etichal Trade Norway is a part of The Joint Ethical Trading Initiatives (JETI), among with our british and danish sister organizations. In addition we work with different international networks and organizations.
Together with our members we regularly conduct projects in the country of manufacture where we get an overview over working and enviromental conditions through local cooperation, to be able to take choices who result in good working conditions for the workers and good development for the local community.
Etichal Trade Norway was established in year 2000 of Federation of Norwegian Commercial and Service Enterprises (HSH, now Virke), Norwegian Church Aid, Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) and Coop Norway.
The initiative was inspired by the recognition that trade is an important prerequsite for development. However, trade must be conducted in a proper manner that ensures decent working and environmental conditions throughout the supply chain.
Today Etichal Trade Norway is the lagerst network of companies, organizations and public enterprises in the Nordic countries who work commited and systematic to secure sustainable supply chains. We offer our members personal guiding and monitoring, access to courses, resources and tools, and our national and international academic community with good opportuneties for capacety building and exchange of experience.
Ethical Trade Norway is a multi-party initiative that makes it possible to meet complex and challenging problems that enterprises can not handle alone.
