By adopting Ethical Trade Principles (code of conduct) you establish a value base for your efforts to promote ethical trade. IEH's Ethical Trade Principles are based conventions adopted by the UN and the International Labour Organization (ILO). There is international consensus that these conventions apply to labour standards worldwide. To ensure commitment to ethical trade, the company's code of conduct should be approved by the company's board. Examples of such principles is no child labour, proper contracts for workers, the suppliers pays the workers a living wage.
Furthermore, the Ethical Trade Principles (code of conduct) should describe how you intend to follow up the suppliers. The principles will have strategic implications for your company, and should therfore be approved by the company's board.
