This one-day workshop is designed to help companies conduct due diligence for the EU Timber Regulation.

To start we’ll provide an update on the latest developments in enforcement, implementation and NGO campaigns. We’ll then delve into the nitty gritty of due diligence using a specific example, taking you through NEPCon’s new Sourcing Hub and the information and tools available on it. The afternoon will be an interactive session using NEPCon SOUrcing Hub in pratice. 

The workshop will run from 09.30-17.00. We will dive into the following topics on the day (subject to ongoing updates)

Jan Hallas - CEO at Domino Møbler

Jan Hallas

Jan is CEO and founder of My Home and Domino Møbler. My Home is a chain of furniture stores, that imports furniture from various parts of the world and sell them through a network of retail shops across Denmark as well as through an online shop. Jan has been working with furniture import over the past many years and have insight in the business culture in the export markets and experience from building long term relationships with suppliers As many other importers of furniture Domino Møbler has faced challenges in meeting the EUTR due diligence requirements.

Jan will be sharing his experience with the process of setting up a due diligence system in his business, the importance of management commitment needed to address the challenges and the solutions that has helped establish due diligence practices in the day to day business.

 

Niels Bølling - Competent Authority

Niels Bølling

Niels Bølling is administrative officer in the Danish Environmental Protection Agency representing the Competent Authority in Denmark. 

"As the competent authority for EU Timber Regulation in Denmark we welcome all initiatives helping operators to fulfil their obligations with regard to the legislation. Not only the word of the legislation but the whole idea behind it fighting illegal logging through trade regulation. NEPCon contribute in this process by supplying information and tools to operators. Operators contribute by sharing experience. I hope to contribute to this event by giving an idea about what we as the authority need to see when checking operator's due diligence systems." 

 

Christian Sloth - Forest Legality Programme Manager with NEPCon

Christian Sloth

Christian has more than 10 years’ experience in wood products, timber legality and natural resource project management. He has expert knowledge and experience in management of legality verification programs, development of standards and procedures, forest legality verification, and forest products risk assessments. He has participated extensively in the EU stakeholder process on the development of EUTR Due Diligence Requirements. He has global working experience in many countries, especially in Europe and Asia. Christian has MSc in Land Use in Developing Countries and MSc in Agroforestry. 

Christian will introduce you to NEPCon Sourcing Hub and unveil exactly how companies can use it practically in setting up due diligence systems and managing timber legality risks in supply chains. 

 

Alexandra Banks - Senior Forest Legality Specialist with NEPCon

Alexandra Banks

Alexandra has several years of experience on international forest policy and international trade regulation. Over the last 3.5 years Alexandra has worked with NEPCon LegalSource clients and legality projects. Alexandra has extensive project experience in the Asia-Pacific, in particular Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Working in particular on VPA and EUTR related projects, Alexandra applies her legal and technical background to a number of  NEPCon areas.

Alex will be leading the breakout sessions and guiding you through exercises and sourcing scenarios to get familiar with
